Please see your doctor for any concerns about your body. With the recent celebrity attention to hymens, I have been meaning to write some thoughts on the matter. For the past 10 years, I have been working as a child abuse pediatrician, taking care of hundreds of girls who have been victims of sexual assault. Those of us in this line of work know a lot about hymens, the female anatomy, and so-called virginity. Virginity is NOT a physical entity. It is a social construct, a tool by which women have been kept powerless and shamed for centuries. The hymen is simply a thin bit of tissue, a vestigial remnant that sits at the entrance of the vagina. It is absolutely useless.

Metrics details. There are various harmful traditional practices and beliefs across the different parts of Ethiopia. Shilshalo, which is yet little known about, is one of these practices existing in Argoba , a community in Amhara National Regional State of Ethiopia. This study was conducted to explore the various features associated with the practice of Shilshalo. To address the objective of the study, qualitative approach with case study design was employed. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the participants of the study. Data were collected through interview and focus group discussion and analyzed using thematic qualitative analysis technique.
I have been fortunate to do some very exciting things in my lifetime. But helping a young girl to hear for the very first time was one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. At Bhubezi, the wonderful healthcare clinic we opened in , the very first girl I helped to fit with a hearing aid created a really magical moment. I attached the hearing aid and went through the simple steps to tune it with the girl. As you can see in the video below, she screeched with joy when she realised she could hear us.
